B2B Mobile Applications: The New Frontier In Enterprise Software

By Mediafly | October 8, 2013

We are on the cusp of another software revolution and it’s all about mobile applications, more specifically B2B mobile applications. In today’s tech world, the lingo can be confusing. It’s especially confusing to someone who doesn’t consider him or herself “tech savvy”.

It is impossible to stay ahead of the curve or even catch up when every day there is a new piece of software being released, a new B2B mobile app or an updated piece of hardware hitting the marketplace. What makes this even harder, is our love for acronyms. Today we’re going to address both: a new technology term and the corresponding acronym; specifically, Mobile Apps as a Service (MAaaS).

MAaaS - Mobile Apps as a Service

You may have seen this term mentioned in other Mediafly blog posts or in our LinkedIn and Twitter updates. This post kicks off a blog series that will explain in detail: what MAaaS is, what MAaaS is not, how MAaaS works and most importantly, why companies should be embracing this paradigm shift in software innovation.

Remember how software as service (SaaS) revolutionized enterprise software? We believe that the Mobile Apps as a Service (MAaaS) is going to do the same for mobile software. MAaaS is the most efficient, effective and low-cost way to approach your mobile transformation and strategy. And the best part is that not matter how large or small your business is, you can enhance your core business functions and leverage all of the capabilities for your mobile device regardless of what type of device you use (iPhone, Android or Windows8).

Unlike SaaS solutions such as Salesforce, Workday or Basecamp, MAaaS provides a delivery model that allows for mobile apps to be optimally leveraged for business use. You can enhance critical business functions such as mobile sales enablement or mobile production enablement while tying into core back-end systems. You can also hone in on what specific components of your content management system, file sharing or CRM solution(s) need to be mobilized so that business end-users can access what they need, when they need it. In addition, syncing capabilities allow you to work both offline and online, giving you all of the benefits of the cloud even when you’re not connected. Now that’s awesome!

Why else is MAaaS the next big thing in the B2B mobile shift? Rapid deployment, platform-wide innovation, and all of the benefits associated with enterprise level software: security, scalability, and integration. With MAaaS, you don’t have to give anything up when deciding between whether to build or buy your mobile app. You don’t have to invest upwards of $100K on a custom application that doesn’t come with “innovation included”. You don’t have to fall behind in innovation and mobile enablement.

This is an exciting time and the mobile mind shift is happening. How are you adapting mobility into your business? Are you looking to build custom apps from the ground up, or have you already worked with a MAaaS-inspired mobile solution already? Let us know in the comments below! Make sure to check back next week for our next installment in our MAaaS Blog series.
